NSLI-Y Korea 2022 – Week 1
Finally, our journey started!
Students met in San Francisco and finished pre-departure training successfully. Students came from all over the US and were excited about this adventure. We built great teamwork during training and got along well. Thankfully, no one was COVID positive at the airport and we could leave without missing anyone. Students were in high spirits. Let’s go!
Photos from our travels.
100% negative was THE best news for us. We tested for COVID the day after arrival and everyone was safe and sound. We kept a positive spirit throughout our journey to Korea.
The First Meal:
We were picked up at the airport and headed to Gwangju. It takes about 4 hour’s drive from the Incheon airport. It was a long drive after the long flight but we could eat our first meal at the rest stop on the way.
We registered our fingerprints to be able to access the dorm. Students use their second finger to open the dorm gate.
After orientation, students did a campus tour and visited nearby restaurants and stores where they will be able to use university-provided vouchers.
The First Cultural Activity:
We participated in a Taekwondo class! Students learned to use basic skills and how to be respectful in the dojang (Taekwondo training hall).
Students learning Korean in the classroom and practicing the language in small group activities.
See you next week!
